The giant trees that tower over us are a perfect reminder of our small existence on the planet. We have a strong commitment to protecting our planet, as it provides us with the land and resources we need to craft our beautiful wines. We are certified sustainable by Napa Green Winery and Land, a third-party certifier with rigorous requirements. We have taken our environmental message beyond the winery by becoming a 1% for the Planet Member with proceeds going to Save The Redwoods League to protect and preserve coastal redwood habitat.

NAPA GREEN VINEYARD

• Designing cover crop and mulching programs to control vine vigor through natural means, thus reducing fertilizer requirements.
• Shredding vine waste to use as mulch instead of burning.
• Hand weeding, adding clove oil, and other sustainable practices to remove weeds as opposed to using glyphosate products.
• Following integrated pest management techniques such as biological control, habitat manipulation, modification of cultural practices, and use of resistant rootstock varieties.
• Removing vines showing any sign of disease immediately and replanting, thus limiting the exposure to neighboring vines.
• Planting all new blocks with an additional drip line strictly for re-plants, thus not wasting water irrigating the entire vineyard for only a few vines.
• Planting specific cover crops to each of the soil types in our vineyard and practicing alternate-row tilling – this builds our soil health and increases our carbon sequestration.
• Sacrificing vineyard land to the “Rutherford Reach” project to restore the flow and natural habitat of the Napa River.
• Social Equity, Justice and Inclusion standards that incorporate direct input and feedback from farmworkers.
• Sequoia Grove was proudly one of the first 5 wineries to be certified under the new more stringent Napa Green standards.

NAPA GREEN WINERY

• Monitoring all water usage monthly for possible leaks and unusual patterns.
• Planting drought-tolerant landscaping and installing drip irrigation to provide precise watering on flowers and grasses.
• Installing energy efficient lighting, HVAC, and winery equipment connected to “smart” controllers.
• Managing our stormwater runoff with a deep bioswale intended to capture and filter water while recharging the aquifer.
• Using recycled paper and cardboard materials made with 50% to 100% post-consumer waste.
• Using an energy management software that efficiently manages cellar and tank heating/cooling through set points and utilization of cool night-time air.
• Recycling wooden pallets, cardboard, natural cork, capsules, and accepted plastics.
• Composting spent grape pomace and other landscape trimmings.
• Reducing our carbon footprint by requesting full shipment loads and backhauling.
