Napa Green is a comprehensive environmental certification program for vineyards and wineries in the Napa Valley. The program represents a soil-to-bottle approach to environmental stewardship and winemaking, integrating holistic management practices at every step of the process. Independent, third-party certification of farms and winemaking facilities makes Napa Green one of the most comprehensive environmental accreditations the wine industry offers.

What Defines Napa Green

From Napa Valley's unique Mediterranean climate to its stunning landscapes and vistas, the region is known for its dedication to land stewardship and world-class wines. The Napa Green program elevates this commitment by protecting the land and conserving valuable resources from soil to bottle - in both the vineyard and the cellar.

  • Beyond Compliance - Through participation in the Napa Green program, vineyards and wineries are certified by meeting and exceeding comprehensive and stringent environmental regulations that will preserve Napa Valley’s land and resources for generations to come.
  • Preservation and Conservation - Napa Green practices protect soils, reduce harmful inputs to the land and restore natural habitats. Program participants monitor energy, water and waste, and find opportunities to conserve resources. Employees are engaged every step of the way.
  • Third-Party Certification - Custom farm conservation plans and sustainable winery programs are verified by independent, third-party certifiers to ensure thorough evaluation.
  • Workforce and Community - Being Napa Green means integrating environmental, social and economic sustainability into grape growing and winemaking operations while caring for workers, engaging with neighbors and giving back to the community.

The 2020 Initiative

Building upon a rich history of stewardship and conservation, the Napa Valley Vintners trade association helped launch Napa Green in the early 2000s. In 2015, the organization set a goal to have every eligible member in the Napa Green program (vineyard or winery) by the end of 2020.
