NAPA GREEN NEWS

Good morning,

Last July, Martin Reyes, MW and I pulled together a collective of community leaders and we have been working incredibly hard to organize an impactful series of events called Napa THRIVES. This unique and action-oriented six-day symposium is spread over three weeks and is designed to accelerate sustainability and climate action in the wine industry. We very much hope you’ll join us, because without you hearing these inspiring ideas, identifying opportunities, and accessing new tools we can’t create the scale and pace of change that we are working so hard to facilitate.

If not here, where? If not now, when? This is a changemaking convening to enable the Napa County wine industry to play an increasingly active role in building social equity, conserving natural resources, reducing and drawing down GHG emissions and creating more resilient vineyards, businesses and communities. Our region and wines capture global attention, meaning our leadership can be an outsized force for change.

The events are organized around the Six Pillars of Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership, and each event day is outlined below. We have assembled:

  • 65+ Industry Leader and Expert Speakers
  • Eight Marquee Speakers
  • Six Industry Mentors
  • Six Leading Moderators
  • 12 Morning Workshop Options (Onsite OR Offsite)
  • 35+ Sustainable Services & Tools vetted vendors

One of the main resistances to phasing out glyphosate is increased labor and equipment costs. However, the costs of herbicides and fertilizers have risen dramatically, so increased labor demands can be offset by reduced supply chain purchases.

In addition, leaders like Grgich Hills Estate have shown that regenerative organic farming can be cost-effective. According to an analysis by Brotemarkle Davis & Co. LLP accounting firm, the average annual per acre cost of vineyard management in the Napa Valley is $14,800, with $3,800 in depreciation. At Grgich, they spend $11,000 per acre, with only $1,300 in depreciation due to the longer life of their vineyards.

Learn from regional leaders about the practical costs, benefits, and ROI of herbicide-free, organic, and regenerative vineyard management.

Confirmed Speakers:
• Ivo Jeramaz, Grgich Hills
• Phil Coturri, Enterprise Vineyard Management & Winery Sixteen 600
• Brad Kurtz, Gloria Ferrer
• Brenae Royal, St. Supery
• Rebekah Wineburg, Quintessa
