Cakebread Cellars in Napa Valley operates with a strong commitment to sustainability, holding certifications from Napa Green Winery, and International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA). Key practices include organic farming, precision water management, integrated pest management (using falcons), solar-powered energy, and a goal to be carbon-neutral by 2030.
Recent green innovations in the cellar include the installation of microturbines that boost energy efficiency and provide heating and cooling for the winery buildings. They also ensure the winery doesn’t lose power during harvest or other critical periods. They have also constructed a green parking lot of permeable pavers that allow water to drain through an underlying gravel bed. This filters the water before replenishing the groundwater supply. Cakebread is constantly exploring unique and innovative ways to reduce the use of water in their cellar and throughout the winery.
