Award-winning Jessup Cellars and its sister winery, Handwritten Wines, have been recognized for another significant honor, Napa Green Certification. In 2019, a panel of representatives of environmentally focused groups Napa Green, Napa Valley Vintners, and Sustainable Napa Valley recognized these Yountville wineries’ active commitment to supporting sustainability and ecologically positive practices.
To support sustainability in the industry, the management and staff of Jessup Cellars initiated an organizational objective that supported the Greening of Napa Valley initiatives of recycling, composting, reusing, and their more efficient use of energy.
Napa Green was created in 2004 to establish practices designed to “improve the health of the Napa River and watershed by preventing erosion & soil runoff.”
Since that time, the organization has adopted a “best practices” formula for regulatory compliance to manage water discharge and have created a sustainability certification that recognized positive climate action programs, regenerative farming initiatives, and even equitable social practices.
Napa Green is one of only four sustainable wine-growing programs nationwide that offers the opportunity for comprehensive soil-to-bottle certification. The commitment to their initiative is particularly strong among wineries in Napa County, where 40% of all the certified sustainable wineries of California are situated.
To ensure progress and continuing success, Jessup Cellars established its own “Green Team” that meets regularly to set goals and review their progress toward enhancing “soil-to-bottle” sustainability in the vineyards and the winery.

In addition to producing the highest quality wines for their customers, Jessup Cellars’ ownership and management take community responsibility very seriously.
Besides their energetic commitment to sustainability and participation in numerous regional charitable events, Jessup Cellars is also recognized as a leader in supporting the art community among wineries near Yountville and throughout Napa Valley. To this end, the Tasting Room for this Yountville winery doubles as an art gallery, curated by their own resident art expert, and features works by celebrated national and regional artists.
