BENESSERE • STERLING VINEYARDS • CHATEAU MONTELENA
Please be sure to make advanced reservations.
Benessere is a small, charming winery, off the beaten path, where you can enjoy the good life. Benessere makes exceptional Italian varietal wines, unique for the Napa Valley. Sit on the garden patio and enjoy the flagship Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese and Black Glass Zinfandel, among other wines. You can easily imagine you’re in Italy surrounded by their vineyards, certified Napa Green Land. They have invested in preserving the riparian habitat along the Napa River, inviting the threatened Steelhead trout to come back and spawn.
As you approach Sterling you may think you are actually driving through the countryside of France. Sterling appears in the distance as a white Chateau perched high on a hillside in the center of the Valley. So how do you get to the winery? An aerial tram of course. As your small suite whisks you upwards you’ll be treated to some amazing views. Sterling was one of the first Napa Green Certified Wineries, certified since 2009, and is comprehensively certified Napa Green Land in the vineyard as well. The iconic tram is powered by solar energy, and Sterling has won several Waste Reduction Awards, donating proceeds to local charities.
On the northern edge of Calistoga visit the fairytale estate of Chateau Montelena, which won the 1976 Judgment of Paris white wine tasting with its 1973 Chardonnay. Try today’s Chardonnay along with Dry Riesling and Zinfandel. Sustainability is part of Chateau Montelena’s DNA – from back to nature solutions like employing a crew of 70 goats as weed eaters, to investing in the latest technologies, like the fastest Tesla charging station in the valley (as well as a universal EV charging station). They’ve installed a hi-tech fan system with blades shaped like airplane wings that circulates air with extreme efficiency, significantly reducing the need for air conditioning in the winery.
Please note: In order to protect the health and safety of all guests as we continue to be vigilant about the spread of COVID-19 all wineries will be reservation-only for the time being. It is essential to make appointments in advance and also review each winery’s posted policies and procedures before you arrive. Don’t forget your classiest wine tasting masks for entering and exiting the winery.
