Handwritten Wines Pic
Yountville is a beautiful little town, boasting some of the best restaurants in the Napa Valley (insider tip: Bistro Jeanty). Handwritten recently celebrated the grand opening of their new custom-designed and bespoke tasting room, the SOYO House, along Yountville’s main drag. The space is full of designer touches, and has an open atrium central patio. If you like a little food with your wine it doesn’t get much better than the Bread & Butter tasting – six wines from hillside vineyards paired with local breads & butters, Jamón delicately sliced at the table and artisan cheese. When Handwritten, and their sister winery, Jessup Cellars, achieved certification in 2019 they hosted a “Napa Green: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” event for their members at the luxe, LEED-certified Bardessono Resort. Cheers to many more fabulous green events!

Visit Nickel & Nickel winery and sit inside the beautifully restored, late-19th century, historic farmstead and enjoy the uniqueness of each single-vineyard cultivated wine.  Along with their sister winery, Far Niente, they are solar-powered, net-zero users of electricity, which means they annually produce more energy than they consume. Cheers to renewable energy and dedication to sustainability across the company.

Whitehall Lane Winery
Only a little further north, checkin at Whitehall Lane – a family-owned winery with more than 40 years of history. Vineyards were planted on their estate property as far back as the mid-1800s. So you know there is something special about this soil. They make elegant Cabernet Sauvignon, but you can also try Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé. Winemaker Jason Moulton came onboard in 2016 and immediately shared his passion for sustainability, not only out in the vineyards but also in the winery. With his leadership they formed a “Green Team” and have achieved both Napa Green Winery and Napa Green Land certification. Whitehall upgraded their refrigeration system to reduce energy demand by 50%, installed an Ultra High Efficiency water heater, and have been changing over all of their lighting to LED. These efficiency improvements not only cut costs but also maximize the benefit of their solar renewable energy system.

Please note: In order to protect the health and safety of all guests as we continue to be vigilant about the spread of COVID-19 all wineries will be reservation-only for the time being. It is essential to make appointments in advance and also review each winery’s posted policies and procedures before you arrive. Don’t forget your classiest wine tasting masks for entering and exiting the winery.

Hear from @marisataylorwines about the importance of water efficiency & savings and what we can all do to conserve this precious resource.
